Recruiting Heritage

Seven Step's roots in recruiting go back to 1989, the year that Mass Futures, our first placement agency, was formed. Since then, our recruiting network has been all about perfecting a new idea in recruitment productivity.

Much like it is today, recruiting in 1989 tended to be a lone-wolf's game, even within large firms. It was all about one-to-one-to-one connections, and only about one-to-one-to-one connections. Recruiters didn't share information and worse, they tended to hoard and protect information from their colleagues.

Now, compare this approach with a simple fact about our industry. In recruiting, access to large talent pools and large job pools is the value we create. How could working one-to-one-to-one be efficient? Recruiting-as-usual wasn't (and isn't) a good solution for anybody involved.

Breakthrough Idea

The idea was simple: what if you allowed for real network effects in recruiting, and assigned a team of recruiters to every client and a team of recruiters to every job seeker? How much more potent a recruitment company would you create?

The answer came quickly. Working in teams, Mass Futures (and the network of recruitment companies it evolved into) achieved a level of recruitment productivity that bested its industry. Today, doing business as Jobspring Partners and Workbridge Associates, the company operates 18 contingency recruitment offices in 10 cities around the country.

Building a Legacy

You can't sit still in contingency recruiting. The stakes are too high. From the beginning, our parent company has had a “how can we make it better” culture. To this day, tweaks and new ideas are a big part of who our parent is. We like to tinker.

The recruitment approach that evolved over time is extremely productive. The productivity the company achieved was built out of many key pieces of acquired wisdom, things like:

  • Recruiting is primarily a sales challenge (more about this)
  • Ongoing training is critical for ongoing recruitment success
  • "Process" should be about manageability and accountability (more about this)
  • Flexibility is an inherent attribute of any solid recruitment process (more about this)

By 2007, our network of recruitment companies had become a groundbreaking leader in the traditional contingency recruitment industry.

Setting Seven Step Apart

2007 was the year that Seven Step Recruiting was launched. Seven Step takes our parent company's productivity breakthroughs and applies them to high-volume, high-complexity recruiting scenarios.

At Seven Step, we're recruiters first. Our method of recruiting has been proven effective. It's been engineered to be adaptable and scalable. And being productive no matter what the volume or how complex the situation is what makes Seven Step work. Seven Step knows how to deliver efficiently and how to take responsibility for our performance. It's in our DNA.
